The Most Underrated YouTube Strategy for Personal Brands

There’s one format I think is wildly underutilized—especially as more experts and thought leaders enter YouTube to grow their personal brands.

We call it the fixer format, which is a style of video where you fix someone’s problem with your knowledge and experience.

For example, an interior designer doing a home make-over, or a physical trainer fixing your workout routine.

And if you have real expertise, it’s one of the fastest ways to build trust and authority for your brand.

Dave Ramsay used this format to build an 9-figure company and media empire with millions of subscribers.

His version of the fixer format is live: people call in and he works through their problems on air.

Let’s break down how and why this format fits his brand.

Access

Dave got his start in radio, which at the time gave him exclusive access to something that most other brands didn’t: an open line to the public.

People could call in from anywhere and tell him everything: their income, their debt, their mistakes, their fears.

And over time, that access snowballed.

His listeners became his content engine.

You don’t need to go find a story—the stories find you.

Authority

Every call-in is a case study where Dave can showcase his authority.

He runs callers through his frameworks that can be found in his intellectual property: books, university curriculum, and software.

That structure gives him credibility because it always feels consistent and principled.

And even listeners who don’t call in will still be exposed to his backend offers and explore on their own time.

Attachment

People call in and share deeply personal stories—on air, in public, with millions listening.

Why?

Because they trust him.

They know he’s been through bankruptcy, found god, and rebuilt. They resonate with his worldview.

The fixer format works for Dave not just because he’s smart, but because he’s earned emotional permission to speak into people’s lives.

So if you have real expertise, and want a fast and proven way to build trust and authority, consider the Fixer format.

How to grow a brand with built in virality

Most creators think they have a content problem.

But what they really have… is a forgettable brand.

Smart branding isn’t about logos, thumbnails, or even high quality editing.

It’s much deeper than that.

It’s about how human memory works.

In our latest video, we explore the psychology of branding with real examples from some of the top YouTube channels.

This is how you can make your brand “known for something” and resonate on an emotional and psychological level with your audience.

Because if they don’t remember you, they won’t share your content, and won’t come back for more.

See you next time,

Mike and Matty
